As some readers know, this isn’t my first rodeo. In the not-so-distant past, I ran, and, ultimately, sold another personal finance blog at a crazy time in life (unrelated to blogging). So I imagine you’re wondering ‘Why start another money blog?’.
Why another blog?
For one, I learned quite a bit about blogging the first go-round. Not only did I learn about blogging, but I learned what I love about blogging and what I don’t. I plan to take what I learned from the last one and apply it to this one.
Another big reason is the community. I love the personal finance blogging community! Even after I sold my first blog, the friendships established through the original blog have continued on. This is a fantastic and supportive community to be a part of. And I wanted back in! I want to maintain the friendships I already have and build new friendships too.
And, last, but not at all least, I want an online “home” to share my ideas, my lessons, my experiences, and my thoughts. I have learned so. very. much. from other bloggers over the years. And, maybe, just maybe, something I have learned or experienced can help others in their lives too. I want to have a place to share when I learn something that changes my life. Who knows? Maybe it’ll help improve someone else’s life too!
Why Why We Money?
After my long obsession with personal finance, I’m at a place in my life where I’ve got a decent understanding of the “hows” of money. And though I will discuss some of the “hows” on this blog, the focus is more on the “whys” of money…and life. (It could get deep, friends, philosophically speaking of course!)
Money is just a tool. If used appropriately, it can help you create a fantastic life you love. Many of us use money as a tool to create financial independence – so work isn’t a necessity, but rather a choice.
Careful though! If money is allowed to consume your life, you can end up being a slave to it. For me, it’s super easy to get hyper-focused on the ultimate goal of FI and forget about life right here, right now. It’s something I have to consistently keep in check.
Alan and I don’t want to wait until we’re financially independent to start leading lives we love. We want lives we enjoy today, not someday.
So we’ve been asking ourselves some important questions like – What kind of impact do we want to make? What is meaningful work to us? How can we help other people? What is the purpose and meaning of our lives? How can we best use our money to do what’s most important in our lives?
We want to take readers on the journey with us as we learn and explore ways to find balance, meaning, and joy on our path to financial independence. We will share how we do things (financially and otherwise), our experiences, our stories, and what we are learning.
Together we can learn and support each other in our journey to richer, more fulfilling lives.
I’m so excited to get WhyWeMoney.com started!
P.S. Though the blog is my baby, I’m more motivated than ever now that Alan is joining me this time. He will offer a welcome and refreshing perspective I couldn’t provide on my own.
